Hey Hey Hey,
Sorry its been awhile, for the very few who actually read this shit lol. I've been in the Chi since thursday for Lollapalooza!!! What a year it was. Thursday I did a behind the scenes tour and got to see the prep for the fest as well as the video trucks and talk to the people that put all of it together, it was sickkkk. They said they are already in the process of finding out the next headliners for the 09 show, possiblities include: Jay-Z, Coldplay and possibly reunions of bands as well as other big name legends like the Police.
Friday me and my friends waited all day at the main stage to get front row for Radiohead. We Saw the electronic indie band, Yaysayer and the insane gypsy rock group Gogol Bordello. Yaysayer was a great show, they are talented lads that are sure to turn out some hits in the future (look out for some posts in the coming weeks). Gogol Bordello was surprisingly a fun show to be at. I wouldn't buy their cd but it was a crazy, intense show, check out some of their live videos and you will see what i mean. Radiohead blew me away. I don't know if it was the amazing light show they had, their deep library of songs to play, or thom yorke and Jonny Greenwood being brilliant. All I know is it was an amazing show. Thom Yorke's voie is one of my favorites its haunting yet it is soo richhh. They ripped through their set of sogns from the past as well as the present.
Day 2 was also a day for getting great seats for the headliner Rage Against the Machine. We suffered through some pretty bad bands but when Lupe Fiasco hit the stage it was a relief. Of the four times I have seen him, Lolla 08 was Lupe at his finest. His band and singers that backed him were very talented and Lupe remains one of the best live hip-hop shows in history. After Lupe ended, Shit hit the fan. People started pushing and passing out in anticipation for Rage. When they started playing all hell broke loose. Basically, a riot broke out and I only lasted for 2 songs. There were people bleeding and passed out all over the place and I was in the middle of 3 jacked guys sooo I had to call it quits before I died. Rage had to stop playing for about 5 minutes because they even saw people were getting seriously injured. That was the first time Rage had to stop playing in 10 years. That shows how insane it really was.
Day 3 we raced into Grant Park to secure the best seats in the house for Mr. Kanye West. Kid Sister performed first and that girl has some talent. She was backed by Chicago electronic outfit Flosstradamus. Without them the show would've suffered greatly. After 2 other groups Gnarls Barkley hit the stage. They were brilliant and once again Cee-Lo and Danger Mouse put on an amazing show. Cee-Lo's voice will blow anyones mind. They also covered Radiohead's Reckoner. After Gnarls came Mr. West. He brought his 12 piece band with him. His band was fitted with over 15 drums including a drum kit, a guitarist, bassist, 3 keyboards and a synth. Once he hit the stage, Kanye didn't stop. He performs with such passion and intensity. He did a cover of "Put on for my city" which lasted for about 10 minutes because of two speeches, one about the late Donda West and one about always progressing and never being satisfied. He blazed through the rest of his set to conclude with Stronger. This song paired with the lights, reorchestration of instruments and many other variables made it one of the best concert moments I have ever had. It really ended the weekend on a high note.
I suggest you buy tickets next year, I'm thinking Perry Ferrell isn't going to stop putting together an amazing lineup and fest.
